What is anspl meter and what are they used for?

If you’re unsure and what is anspl meter, what they are used for, and how to use one correctly, then read on as you’re in the right place! An SPL meter means a sound pressure level meter that is also commonly referred to as decibel meter or even a dbspl meter.

So what are dbspl meters used for?

These accurate devices are used to measure the decibels produced by sound as they travel through the air. Broadly speaking, anspl meter is a hand-held device that comprises of a microphone, which responds to the alterations in the air pressure which are generated by sound waves, hence why these types of sound meters are known as sound pressure level meters. These devices have a small screen which shows up a digital reading of the level of sound pressure and are sometimes referred to as a digital spl meter.

What are sound level pressure meters used for?

A dbspl meter is most commonly used for measuring the levels of noise, especially within environmental and industrial environments, as well as for noise pollution studies.

These types of devices are commonly used in working environments where a measurement of noise of levels is required by law to ensure whether the sound produced at work exceeds the decibel levels that are regarded as being unsafe to the human ear. If the digital spl meter reads that the noise levels are higher than the safe limits stipulated by the Noise at Work Regulations 2005, further action must be taken by an employer to help safeguard the hearing of employees.

How does a digital spl meter work?

These sound measuring instruments are simple to use. At one end there is a point stick, which is the microphone that picks up and measure the intensity of the sound waves. The longish stick separates the microphone from the body of the dbspl meter in order to provide a measurement of greater accuracy as it cuts out any reflections. Inside the main body of the digital spl meter there are electronic circuits, which measure the sound which is picked up by the microphone. The sound is then amplified and filtered before the reading is displayed on the LCD display.

How to use anspl meter?

Using anspl meter is extremely straightforward. A standard spl meter requires someone to hold the instrument with their arm extended at arm’s length and tipped slightly at an upwards angle. When the device is switched on the microphone will pick up the level of noise in a given space and then a reading of the decibel level will be displayed on the digital screen.

If you want to accurately assess the intensity of noise in a specific area, using a dbspl meter will give you an accurate reading quickly and efficiently, which can be an invaluable asset for those operating in conventional noisy conditions and want to make sure they are compliant to the regulations regarding noise at work.
